About This Qualification

The VTCT Level 3 Award in Education and Training will enable the learner to enter teaching employment and progress on to a broader teaching qualification.

This qualification replaces the PTTLS qualification. It certifies you to teach at a nationally accredited standard and meet the standard required by awarding/accrediting bodies to create, deliver and accredit courses.

This qualification has been mapped to the relevant Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) NOS, and is accredited on the Regulated Qualifications Framework.

Theory elements are covered online in your own home, in your own time and at your own pace via self-study using our Virtual Learning Environment. These theory elements are perfectly suited to online delivery therefore they can be delivered and learning assessed online. You will be fully supported by your course tutor whose role it is to help and guide you through the process from beginning to end. Both your tutor and assessor will ensure that you not only reach your goals but also maintain industry and awarding body standards.

Prerequisites

It is recommended that you have a level of general education comparable to GCSEs, a caring disposition and be committed to fulfilling all learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. This qualification is available to both beginner and existing teachers wishing to gain further qualifications and update their skills. You should also hold qualifications in the areas you wish to teach at a later date. You must meet the required Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and have stable internet access through a laptop, PC, or tablet, equipped with the latest versions of Windows, Android, or Apple operating systems, up-to-date Browsers eg. Firefox, Safari or Chrome, Adobe PDF Reader & Flash Player, Microsoft Word (or equivalent) and have access to a printer.

Course Structure

• UET1 Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training: The aim of this unit is to enable you to understand the role and responsibilities of a teacher in education and training and the relationship between different professionals within education and training.
• UET2 Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training: The aim of this unit is to enable you to understand and use inclusive teaching and learning approaches to meet the needs of learners. This includes how to create a learning environment that engages and motivates learners, and the planning, delivery and evaluation of inclusive teaching and learning. You are required to deliver a microteaching session and to evaluate your own delivery practice.
• UET5 Understanding assessment in education and training: The aim of this unit is to enable you to understand how
  different types and methods of assessment are used in education and training. This includes ways to involve learners in assessment and requirements for record keeping.

Duration

This qualification can be completed in a minimum of 3 months, however, on average it takes 6 months to complete all the elements. VTCT completion criteria allow a maximum of 2 years from registration.
